Sorrento

My (lemon) farm dream

For the people who know me well, they know I would love to renovate an old farm, have lots of space for my pottery and candle studio, a flower picking field, chickens, ducks, vegetable garden, etc… The past few years I’ve been connecting with people who live on a farm, who are about to renovate a farm,…. and looking back now… the ‘ a farm is my life project’ signs were even there back in 2015.

When you go on travel adventures, there are always some travels that stick with you more than others. This is one that I still remember vividly.

‘When life hands you lemons, make limoncello’, which is what I did with my best friend who is italian during the summer of 2015. We stayed at an organic lemon farm in Italy for a week. See, a farm… even back then there were ‘farm’ signs. That stay was unique and unforgettable. The best way to describe the farm is as an oasis of tranquility. Just surrounded by lemon trees, stunning views, great company,… the perfect place to unwind and relax. This holiday was the perfect combination of activity and rest.

Some Lemon Farm facts:

During long winters they cover the greenhouses with bamboo; to create a microclimate. This way the trees can retrieve energy during the winter. When they don’t use the bamboo, they store the bamboo on top of the greenhouses in little houses.

The lemon trees consists of 2 parts. Wild orange on top and lemons at the bottom. The lemons that are bright yellow are the best ones. And yes we ‘learned’ how to make Limoncello. Even a workshop of how to make mozzarella, all with organic ingredients from the farm itself, was part of our stay.

Since we had only one week at the farm, we visited the most famous places near the farm. The farm itself was located in Sorrento; ‘Agriturismo Il Giardino di Vigliano’. We hiked the ‘Walk Of The Gods’, high above the coastal town of Positano & Praiano. A great but quite exhausting walk because of the heat and I sometimes suffer from the ‘altitude sickness’, but I never let that stop me from traveling and visiting great places. This trail ended in Positano. We also visited the island of Capri by boat. It is something I heard a lot of, and I get the ‘magic’ of Capri. It is a beautiful, picturesque island.

This holiday was organized by GAdventures. A travel organization which offers great guided holidays for a reasonable price. The great thing about GAdventures is that you travel in quite small groups which means that you are never alone. You always get to know new people and it is an excellent way of getting to know new countries. I already traveled two times with GAdventures, and I’ve been blessed with the best tour guides so far. It is a great way of traveling and I do recommend it!
